Bible Bowl 2010
As usual, Bible Bowl competitions were a great success once again. There was a record number of 30+ teams that participated in this year’s competitions. Bible Bowl encourages the youth and the young at heart to study the Bible, and enhance their knowledge of God’s word. There is a category for everyone who wants to participate. The groups for Bible Bowl are: Pre-Juniors, ages 6-9; Juniors, ages 10-15; Senior youth, ages 16-22; Young Adult, ages 23-35. The last category for Bible Bowl is the Adult category in which anyone over 36 can participate.
The Bible Bowl competitions were held on Friday, June 4, 2010 in Moseley Complex. The games that were held on Friday determined exactly who would participate in the Championship Games that were held Sabbath June 5, 2010. The 1st place winners for the Championship games are as follows: Pre-Juniors - Tuscaloosa, Juniors - Riverside, Senior youth – South Park, Young adult - Madison Mission, Adult - South Park. The winners of the Championship Games will be moving on to the next level--Nationals. The National Bible Bowl Competitions will be held in Ontario, Canada this October. Everyone that participates in Bible Bowl is a winner, and no one can be deemed a loser.
As a participant, I absolutely loved Bible Bowl. I think that Bible Bowl is a game in which one can display their knowledge of the Bible, and most importantly develop Christian character. There are many things that the youth can participate in, and I would encourage all to consider them. In addition to Bible Bowl, Pathfinders, and many more, there is also Health and Temperance.
Youth Health & Temperance
In Health and Temperance, participants can display their gifts and talents in many ways whether it be PowerPoint Presentations, Jingles, Posters, or Orations. I feel that as Christians, the adults should encourage the youth to participate in these types of things. I know from experience the spiritual gain that can be attained from the extracurricular activities that are available within the church. Encourage and be encouraged to become a part of all that South Central Conference has to offer. It is vitally important that the Christian leaders exemplify Christian character as positive role models for the youth. The youth are the future, and it is of essence to encourage, support, and mentor us. Let’s ruminate on these things.
Saturday Night
Youth Activity
On Saturday night the Pathfinders held a Pathfinder Drum Drill Exhibition at the Oakwood University Gymnasium. Rico Washington, age 13 from the West End SDA Church in Atlanta, GA, was impressed. He excitedly stated. "My favorite part was the drum-off!" As a result of going to the exhibition, Rico wants to become a pathfinder. His cousin, Khari Herbert, age 12 from the Faith Chapel Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama, loved the band. "My favorite part was the band playing in the circle. They were surrounded by all the kids as they played outside the gym." Khari shared with us that this was his second year at Camp Meeting. He had such a great time last year that he decided to return this year. Both Khari and Rico stated that they enjoyed the worship services. The theme this year is "Fearless." The speakers, Pastor John Boston and Pastor Delroy Brooks, encouraged the youth to not be scared of anything. They told them to trust God because He is always with them.
